The UK has lifted its travel band on Mexico in the wake of the Swine flu ‘epidemic’. The virus is not as strong as we believed it to be, and as a result UK citzens can now continuing travelling to Mexico. Swine flu’s killed over 60 people worldwide, and causing the sickness of 7,500 people, which is a death rate of 0.8% of those with the virus. The WHO (World Health Organisation) still has the alert at five out of six, afraid that it may become a pandemic at any minute. Malta’s ban on travelling to Mexico is still on, ever though there is yet to be a confirmed cases come from the country
Britains Foreign office has warned for travellers to be wary though, and follow advice to avoid contracting the disease. Fourteen new cases have been confirmed in Britain, with 263 cases being confirmed in Europe. twenty one new cases have also sprung up in Japan, though they have had no contact with anyone with the virus or travelled abroad recently. This brings the total number of cases in Japan to just 250, which also includes the first case in Tokyo. Many of the cases from Japan have come from Osaka, the second biggest city in Japan behind Tokyo, and Kobe, a city in the west of Japan.
But even though travel to Mexico is now allowed, the government fear that people wont be coming to the country this year, as all the tourist hotspots appear deserted. And when the whole world is right in the middle of a recession, this is not what their goverment needed to hear. Experts in the tourism industry claim that Mexico wont recover until after the new year, meaning low levels of tourism income for the country during its key summer season.
