Larry finally determined that he needed to go and see his family healthcare practitioner about his irresponsible drinking.  At first, Larry thought he would be able to basically go on the Internet, look for some fundamental alcohol info, and come to a decision whether or not he was dependent on alcohol.  Not unexpectedly, he found many websites that listed some of the usual alcoholism symptoms.  That’s the encouraging news. The less than positive news, unfortunately, was that Larry exhibited a number of these alcoholism symptoms.

Alcohol Dependency Symptoms: Some Illustrations

For example, Larry was drinking increasingly more than usual and he was starting to have more angry quarrels with the female he was dating.  Additionally, for the first time in his young life he was going through sleeping issues. Similarly, Larry often felt depressed and on an ever increasing basis he had been manifesting less than normal attentiveness at his job.

Moreover, he felt stressed out and more nervous on a daily basis and for the past few months he had shown signs of unclear thinking at his place of employment.  In view of the fact that Larry manifested all of these symptoms, he was understandably uncomfortable about his irresponsible drinking.

So Larry finally determined that he needed to contact his healthcare practitioner and schedule an appointment.  To tell the truth, this was problematic for Larry because his family healthcare practitioner was also his parents’ family physician.  The basis for his distress was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and reveal his irresponsible and excessive drinking behavior to his healthcare practitioner.

When Larry arrived at the healthcare practitioner’s office, he candidly told the doctor about the apprehension he felt about his excessive drinking behavior.  When the healthcare practitioner asked what was inducing this trepidation, Larry mentioned that he had gone on the world wide web and read about alcohol addiction and especially about alcohol addiction symptoms. He then listed all of the alcoholism symptoms that he plainly thought he had.

An Exhaustive Physical Examination and Outpatient Alcohol Rehabilitation

The healthcare professional informed Larry that it was smart of him to concentrate on his drinking difficulties, he gave Larry an exhaustive physical exam, and suggested that he enroll in an out-patient alcohol rehabilitation program that was supervised by one of his doctor co-workers.

Moreover, when Larry said that he had been feeling depressed more often, the family healthcare practitioner notified Larry that alcoholism and depression often come about in the same person.  Hence, the doctor also suggested that Larry obtain counseling to attend to his despair.

The Advantage of Handling Your Drinking Problems

The family healthcare practitioner made it a point to notify Larry that he might not necessarily be an alcoholic, but that he was unmistakably drinking in a hazardous manner.  The healthcare practitioner then informed Larry that the reason he suggested alcohol rehab in the first place was because he wanted him to face up to his drinking issues, make sure that he prevented them from escalating, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to completely quit drinking.

To sum up, by productively treating his drinking problems, Larry would be able to get his drinking problems under control and abstain from the negative cycle of events that could almost certainly result in addiction to alcohol.

Without a doubt, Larry did not want to face the thought of getting admitted into an alcohol treatment program. Nor was he elated about going to a counselor about his depression.  In spite of these trepidations, then again, Larry in point of fact experienced some emotional relief for the first time in many months because he eventually gave up making excuses for himself and finally determined that he needed to do something affirmative about his drinking problems.
