If you are considering using one of the many low calorie diets out there to lose weight, then you should think again.

A low calorie diet does seem the right thing to do. Excessive calories that have been stored as fat, is the reason for you being overweight. It seems obvious that weight loss can be achieved by reducing calories.

The issue is that your body is actually an organic defence system. Everything that your body does is aimed at keeping you moving and keeping you alive. If yu ae used to consuming a particular number of calories, and all of a sudden this number drops by a large amount, your body will respond by burning calories at a slower rate to compensate. It will do this because the message it is recieving, is not that you are trying to lose weight, but that you are in the process of starving, and your body will react by hanging on to calories, it won't care that you are trying to lose them.

This is why so many people who go on low calorie diets, find that they lose some weight at the start, and then the weight loss stops after a few weeks. They assume that the diet has stopped working, and stop following it. The assumption that the diet is not working is the right assumption, but not for the reasons that people think. A low calorie diet is a temporary method, and you can guarantee that any lost weight will return.

You end up with negative beliefs about losing weight, along with regrets at all the effort and time that you have wasted. This means that each time you try to lose weight, you will approach it with the belief that you will not succeed, because you have always failed in losing weight in the past.

You really need to understand that low calorie diets are not the answer to succesfully losing weight. If you have been successful with these kind of diets, you wouldn't be looking for information here. Weight loss can by successfully achieved with tried and tested techniques. Having a long trm plan involving exercise and diet is the real key. Not rushing yourself is the real secret. Simply put, using sensible methods and sensible time frames will allow you not to only succeed in losing weight, but it will it will allow you to keep the weight off for good.

This may sound strange but successful weight loss is about choice. You can keep going down the same path that you always do, but this will continue to lead you to the same place that you have always arrived at. If you want to change the results that you have been getting, then surely you will need to change what you have been doing. Low calorie diets are more a hinderance than a help.
